2000 Ford F-750 Crew Cab monster

The medium-duty version of the Ford F-Series is a range of commercial trucks manufactured by Ford since 1948. Derived from the smaller F-Series pickup trucks, the medium-duty range is currently in its eighth generation. Initially slotted between the F-Series pickup trucks and the “Big Job” conventionals, later generations were slotted below the L-Series “Louisville” trucks; the last two generations are the largest vehicles produced by Ford since its exit from the heavy-truck segment.

The saying everything is BIGGER in Texas goes right out the window with this consignment, as we have in our midst a 2000 F750 Crew Cab pickup. This is the pickup truck to end all pickup trucks and these fancy “boys ” running around here in their dually F250 and 350’s better move over because they are about to get run over by this monster. A 7th generation model these were the largest vehicles produced in the US as Ford had sold to Freightliner. So if 30,000 lbs GVW standing at a 158 inch wheelbase suits your needs, or you want to drive around just laughing at those wimpy F-2 and 350’s, this is the apple of your eye.

Exterior
From the high front grille, the wide bumper on the bottom and inset headlights which are over your head when you stare at them, this is as close to a big rig as you can get without going out and actually purchasing a big rig! A 158 inch wheelbase, 95 inches of height and 243 inches of overall length, you can suck through some serious diesel fuel to haul a 4×8 stack of plywood! Harvest Gold paint in excellent condition bathes the 4 door full crew cab and bed in back. A hefty stainless steel running board is attached with a full tool box at the rear dual wheels. A very heavy duty tow package is hanging from the rear of the truck, and the bed has a black vinyl covering which is retractable for easy access to the bed. The bed is sprayed with a HD liner which shows some dirt and use, but it is not chipped. Overall the exterior is rust free and very clean.

Interior
A mountain climb in for this writer even with the running boards I slipped inside past plastic molded door panels with large storage areas in them. A bit of wood veneer is present where the power toggles are within the armrest. Inside, black leather buckets with some slight aging cracks and folds show nicely. These high back buckets front a wood grained dash with the standard gauge cluster, and climate controls. The dash also uses some more molded plastic in gray on the bottoms and in front of the passenger for the glovebox. A wood rimmed rally style steering wheel is on, and in dash central is a 7 inch screen for a navi, stereo controls, and a back up camera. Nice wood veneer is covering the large and n charge center console on top, and I note a push button transmission in lieu of a shift lever. Large cup holders belly up to the console/glovebox whose top also serves as an armrest. This is in gray. Gray carpeting covers the floors and in back is the crew area which have access through their own full doors, and a 60/40 leather bench with white stitching and in pristine condition. There is also storage under these seats, and cup holders for the back on the edge of the console. A light gray headliner is above and all is also looking very clean.

Drivetrain
A lift of the forward hinged hood allows full access to the engine which with this version is a 7.2 Liter Cat 3126 inline 6 cylinder engine which is rated at 210hp with 605lbft torque. It has EFI and an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission with a 4.11 rear axle. All is very clean under this hood and engine bay.

Undercarriage
Leaf springs with airbags are on all 4 corners as well as airbag front and rear air actuated drum braking. No rust, just solid steel structure and a single exhaust all looking sweet underneath.

Drive-Ability
My last foray into driving a bigger truck did end well with a gear grind fest that I could not figure out for the life of me, and I’ve been driving stick since I was 15. This one was a totally different story, with an easy starter, automatic transmission, and plenty of creature comforts to make the driving experience awesome and powerful feeling up so high in the air. A great power trip if there was one!
